What Is the Crayon Shin-chan Kasukabe Stamp Tour?

The Crayon Shin-chan Kasukabe Stamp Tour is a project run by the Kasukabe City Tourism Association. It’s free to join, and the idea is simple: collect the Crayon Shin-chan stamps placed at six spots around the city. It’s popular with Kasukabe residents, and in recent years with overseas visitors as well.

Kasukabe has actually been using Crayon Shin-chan in its town-building efforts since 2004, and there are several monuments around the city beyond the ones at these stamp locations. This stamp tour can be seen as one part of that longer-running effort.

Stamp sheets can be picked up at each of the locations. The locations themselves are split between two areas: the Kasukabe Station Area and the Kasukabe Showa Area (the former Showa Town).

Here’s a closer look at all six.

Stamp Location 1: Puratto Kasukabe (Tourist Information Center)

Puratto Kasukabe (Kasukabe Tourist Information Center) is a 2–3 minute walk from the East Exit of Kasukabe Station.

The facility opened in December 2009 as a place to share tourist information and local products from Kasukabe, and anyone is welcome to drop in. A large Crayon Shin-chan sign stands outside, so it’s easy to spot.

Inside, you’ll find the Shinnosuke and Himawari monument that used to stand at the former Ito-Yokado Kasukabe store. The stamp corner is inside the building.

Kasukabe City Hall exterior:Machinaka Plaza

At the entrance stands a monument of Crayon Shin-chan and his little sister Himawari. The stamp corner is just inside Cafe Bloomy’s, the cafe on the City Hall grounds.

There are also monuments of Hiroshi and Misae Nohara — Shin-chan’s parents — on the grounds, and they’re a popular photo spot.

Stamp Location 3:Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall (Showa Kogyo Nijiiro Hall)

Since August 18, 2026, this Crayon Shin-chan monument and its stamp have been located at the Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall (Showa Kogyo Nijiiro Hall).

They were originally at Kyodo Shiryokan (Kasukabe Local History Museum), inside the Education Center, but have been moved here while the Education Center undergoes renovation work — currently until March 2028 (planned).

(There are also reports that Kyodo Shiryokan itself will close from around October 2026 because of the Education Center renovation. Please check with Kasukabe City for the latest opening status before you visit.)

Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall (Showa Kogyo Nijiiro Hall) exterior

The monument shows the Crayon Shin-chan characters in kimono. It’s based on Kasukabe-juku, a post town on the Edo-era Nikko Kaido road that flourished at the time, and along with Shinnosuke himself, the friends of the “Kasukabe Defense Group” are dressed as townspeople of that era.

The stamp corner is immediately to your left as you come in through the hall’s main entrance, over by the windows. The stamp stand sits right next to the monument, so once you arrive you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it.

For reference, the monument’s usual home, Kyodo Shiryokan, is about a 10-minute walk from the East Exit of Kasukabe Station, inside the Education Center. It opened in July 1990 and covers the history of the Kasukabe area from the Paleolithic period through the modern day, including a 1/200-scale diorama recreating Kasukabe-juku.

Stamp Location 4:Harukite

Harukite (Odako Culture Exchange Center) is in Nishi-Hoshubana, Kasukabe City, in the former Showa Town.

Harukite (Odako Culture Exchange Center)

From the East Exit of Kasukabe Station, take the Asahi Bus bound for Sekiyado Chuo Bus Terminal, ride about 30 minutes, get off at Odako Koen-iriguchi Bus Stop, and walk about 7 minutes.

The facility was built on the site of the former Hoshubana Elementary School and opened in August 2024. Alongside exhibits on odako (giant kite) culture and local history materials, it rents out meeting rooms and a gymnasium.

The stamp corner is in the hallway in front of the staff room on the 1st floor. The Crayon Shin-chan monument is on the 2nd floor, in front of the odako culture exhibition space, and shows Shinnosuke holding a kite. It’s also a good place to learn about the history of the giant kites that are a traditional part of culture in the former Showa Town.

Stamp Location 5: Michi-no-Eki Showa

Michi-no-Eki Showa (Showa Roadside Station), along the National Route 4 Bypass, is a popular stop for local produce and souvenirs.

Michi-no-Eki Showa (Showa Roadside Station) exterior

Inside there’s a dining facility called Shokusaikan, and food trucks also set up on the grounds, so it’s an easy place to stop for a meal.

Despite being a roadside station, you can reach it without a car. From the East Exit of Kasukabe Station, take the Asahi Bus bound for Sekiyado Chuo Bus Terminal, get off at Nokyo Center-mae Bus Stop, and walk about 3 minutes. The Haru Bus community bus from the North Exit of Minami-Sakurai Station also stops at the Michi-no-Eki Showa bus stop.

It’s known as “the roadside station where swallows gather” — large numbers of swallows arrive each year from around late March through around August. Fittingly, the Crayon Shin-chan monument here shows Shinnosuke dressed up as a swallow. Crayon Shin-chan sweets and other goods are on sale as well.

Stamp Location 6: Ryu-Q-kan (Underground Discharge Channel)

Often featured on television as something like an underground temple, the Underground Discharge Channel is a flood-control facility about 6.3 km long, sitting roughly 50 m below ground. It was built to prevent flood damage in the Tokyo metropolitan area and is one of the largest underground discharge channels in the world.

Ryu-Q-kan is the visitor center for that facility. When it opened in 2003, the name was chosen through a public call for entries, drawing on the local legend of the “Hibuse no Ryu” (the fire-quelling dragon) and the word “AQUA” (water)

Ryu-Q-kan (Underground Discharge Channel) exterior

Inside, exhibits explain how the Underground Discharge Channel works and what it does, along with displays about the Edogawa River. A Crayon Shin-chan monument stands at the Ryu-Q-kan entrance, and the stamp corner is in the exhibition room on the 2nd floor.

Touring the Underground Discharge Channel itself requires an advance reservation, but the Ryu-Q-kan exhibition room, with its models and displays, can be visited on the day without a reservation, free of charge.

Recommended Routes|A Kasukabe Resident’s Tips for Getting to All 6 Locations

  • Wednesday through Sunday works best (watch for closed days and the New Year period)
  • By car, the tour takes about 4 hours of actual touring time, even at a relaxed pace
  • Train and bus is possible, but Haru Bus service is infrequent, so plan around waiting times

What to Check Before You Start the Crayon Shin-chan Kasukabe Stamp Tour

Each of the six stamp locations has its own closed days.

Puratto Kasukabe, Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall, and Ryu-Q-kan are generally closed on Mondays, while Harukite is closed on Tuesdays. When those days fall on a public holiday, the closure shifts to the following weekday, so it’s worth checking in advance. All of the facilities also close over the New Year period.

With that in mind, Wednesday through Sunday is the best window for the stamp tour. Unless it’s a week where Monday or Tuesday falls on a public holiday, you can cover all six stamp locations in a single day.

One exception: the Kasukabe City community bus, Haru Bus, doesn’t run on Sundays. If you plan to use it, go on a Wednesday through Saturday instead.

What Happened When a Kasukabe Resident Actually Did the Stamp Tour

The author, a Kasukabe resident, did the stamp tour by car on a Saturday, starting at 9:00 in the morning and finishing around 14:00 in the early afternoon. That was with kids along, taking time at each facility.

Subtract the roughly one hour spent on lunch at AEON Mall Kasukabe, and the whole circuit came to about 4 hours of actual touring. If you’re only collecting stamps and taking photos with the monuments, it can be done in less time than that.

Being local, the author never got lost, and the route went smoothly even with children in tow. Visitors coming from outside the city may need a little more time.

That’s especially true if you’re using public transportation rather than a car. Even with an efficient route and a 9:00 start, expect the day to run until around 16:00. The three spots around Kasukabe Station can be done in one go, but the three in the Kasukabe Showa Area are further from the stations, and some — Ryu-Q-kan in particular, where stamp hours end at 16:00 — close earlier than the rest.

Here are both routes: one by car, and one by train and bus.

Getting Around by Car

The Kasukabe stamp tour goes smoothly if you have a car.

Starting from around Kasukabe Station, visiting in the order Kasukabe City Hall → Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall → Puratto Kasukabe also sets you up well for the drive out to the Kasukabe Showa Area afterward.

Kasukabe City Hall has free parking. Parking at Kasukabe Civic Culture Hall is paid (175 spaces; ¥100 for up to 1 hour, then ¥100 for each additional hour). Puratto Kasukabe is the only one where you’ll need a nearby coin parking lot, but it’s right by the station, so there’s plenty to choose from.

Next, head out to the Kasukabe Showa Area. Michi-no-Eki Showa → Ryu-Q-kan → Harukite is the order we’d recommend. Because Ryu-Q-kan’s stamp hours end early, at 16:00, you may need to visit it before the others. The facilities in the Kasukabe Showa Area are also spread out, so build travel time into your plan.

If you’ve come to Kasukabe by train, an efficient approach is to walk the three spots around Kasukabe Station first, then pick up a rental car or car share near the station and drive out to the Kasukabe Showa Area.

Getting Around by Train and Bus

The Crayon Shin-chan Kasukabe Stamp Tour can also be done entirely by train and bus, plus a taxi or some walking.

At the stamp locations around Kasukabe Station, you’ll often see overseas visitors — but in the Kasukabe Showa Area, we barely saw any. Getting around without a car is hard work, and the train-and-bus route is difficult to piece together, which likely explains part of it.

So here’s a route with the bus stops checked in person on site. It covers every location using only trains and buses, with no taxi — though given the waiting times involved, we can’t recommend it for everyone, so please read it with that in mind.

Note: Facility names, travel times, and bus schedules match those given in the article above. Bus times may change, so please check the latest timetable before visiting.

This route connects trains and buses to reach all of the stamp locations. Do note, though, that Haru Bus runs infrequently, and the services that stop at Ryu-Q-kan are limited to certain times. Take the bus departing the North Exit of Minami-Sakurai Station at 9:32 or 12:42 to reach Ryu-Q-kan.

Note:Bus times are subject to change, so please check the latest timetable before you visit.

There are no shops or commercial facilities near Ryu-Q-kan, so you’ll have a long wait on your hands until the next bus. One good way to use that time is to book a tour of the Underground Discharge Channel in advance — the Underground Temple Course takes about 55 minutes. It’s popular, though, so the time slot you want may already be full.

If that happens, another option is to walk the roughly 15 minutes from Ryu-Q-kan to the Showa Branch Office, then take Haru Bus from there to Michi-no-Eki Showa. If you’re up for a longer walk, Ryu-Q-kan to Michi-no-Eki Showa takes about 30 minutes on foot. The route passes through open countryside, so it makes for a pleasant walk in its own right. Michi-no-Eki Showa has both Haru Bus and Asahi Bus stops nearby, so moving on from there is easy.

The key is to decide in advance how you’ll get to Ryu-Q-kan and how you’ll move on afterward. The route we’d personally recommend is taking a taxi from the North Exit of Minami-Sakurai Station to Ryu-Q-kan, calling another taxi after your visit to get to Michi-no-Eki Showa, and continuing by Asahi Bus from there. You won’t be left with time to kill, and the cost stays reasonable.
